This is only short information regarding on jeJamuran. When I visited the jeJamuran dining stall last week, I found that the menu offered by jeJamuran was added 2 items. These items were not the new menu, but, it will serve everyday rather than only Saturday and Sunday. The menu were Shiitake omelet and Jamur asem manis.

So, you do not need to wait until Saturday nor Sunday to have these menu like before...
Although the fuelprice was higher, no worries that until now there is no change on the menu offered by jeJamuran...

Knowing Yogyakarta – part 1

The Special Province of Yogyakarta (Indonesian: Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, or DIY), is the smallest province of Indonesia (excluding Jakarta). It is located on the island of Java. It is the only province in Indonesia that is still formally governed by a pre-colonial Sultanate, the Sultanate of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat.

Yogyakarta is known as a center of classical Javanese fine art and culture such as batik, ballet, drama, music, poetry and puppet shows. It is also famous as a center for Indonesian higher education. At Yogyakarta’s center is the kraton, or Sultanate’s palace. While the city sprawls in all directions from the kraton, the core of the modern city is to the north.

The History

The Yogyakarta Sultanate, formally the Sultanate of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat, was formed in 1755 when the existing Sultanate of Mataram was divided by the dutch (VOC = Verenidging Indishce Compagnie) in two under the Treaty of Giyanti. This treaty states that the Sultanate of Mataram was to be divided into the Sultanate of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat with Yogyakarta as the capital and Mangkubumi who became Sultan Hamengkubuwono the 1st as its Sultan Pakubuwono the 3rd who was the ruler of the Sultanat of Mataram as its Sultan and had Surakarta (known as Solo) as the capital. The Hamengkubuwono the 1st spent amost 37 years building the new capital, with the kraton as the centerpiece and the court of Surakarta as the blueprint model. By the time he died in 1792, his territory exceeded Surakarta’s.

In support of Indonesia declaring independence, in 5 September 1975, the Hamengkubuwono the 9th together with the Paku Alam the 8th declared the Sultanate of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat to be part of the Republic of Indonesia. In return for this unfailing support, the area that being occupied by the Sultanate of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat was granted the status of special province based on 1950 based on the Law Number 3, with the special recognizes on the power of Sultan in his region’s domestic affairs.

Until now, there is only two governor in Yogyakarta. The first one was the Hamengkubuwono the 9th and be continued by his son, the Hamengkubuwono the 10th. Why only two? It caused unlike other provinces or regions in Indonesia, beside being the central government man, the Sultan was the cultural leader and being very respectfull from all of his people or event from the central government. In example, although the Sultan is the governor that have to obey the central government, when the President of the Republic of Indonesia came to kraton, the President of the Republic of Indonesia was only the common people that have to obey the thumb of rules in kraton....

The Regions

There are five regions in the Special Province of Yogyakarta: city of Yogyakarta, Sleman region, Bantul region, Kulon Progo region and Gunung Kidul region. The city of Yogyakarta located at the center of the Special Province of Yogyakarta, Sleman region was on the northern side, Bantul region on the southern side, Gunung Kidul region at the eastern side and the Kulon Progo at the western side. Cause of its location, all of the regions have different natural panorama that makes the Yogyakarta very beautiful...

I will continue this session with the characteristics of each regions when we met again....

jeJamuran

This is the 2nd times I have lunch at jeJamuran dining stall at Niron, Pandowoharjo, Sleman. jeJamuran was the newest dining stall in Sleman. It have just been opened by February 2008 and offered menu from mushroom, such as satay from the oyster mushroom, tongseng from paddy straw mushroom, mushroom pepes, fried mushroom, gudeg that used paddy straw mushroom (during Monday to Sunday) and their special menu shiitake omelet, mushroom barbeque, and the oyster mushroom that served with special ingredients (only served on Saturday and Sunday), with the price range between IDR 1,500.00 (for rice) until IDR 15,000.00 (for shiitake omelet). So, if you go there just prepare IDR 15,000.00 to IDR 25,000.00 in cash to try this exotic menu.

For yor information, because this dining hall was new, there is no credit cards machine on it, so it would be better if you have you cash on your wallet.

How to get there?

As shown at the map above, it is easy to get there. It take about 45-60 minutes from Jogjakarta to get there depends on the crowd. You can go there by bus, taxi, or maybe motorcycle. It would be better, you get there before or after you go to other exotic tourist destination such as Kaliadem, Umbulwadon, playing golf at Merapi Golf, or agritourism at Turi.

Why jeJamuran?

I like to recommend you this dining stall because beside it healthy, it can improve our knowledges too. We can see how to cultivate mushroom such as the oyster, the paddy straw, shiitake and lingtze as they have their mushroom behind them. You can have any information on mushroom that they have plant. So, beside you eat you can get new knowledge or information or even business opportunity on mushroom.

What a kind of experiences there… Hope that someday we will meet thee, so you can give me an opinion on that place.

Welcome Abroad

Yogyakarta (some people call it Jogja, Jogjakarta, or Yogya) is a city with outstanding historical and cultural heritage. Yogyakarta was the centre of the Mataram Dynasty (1575-1640), and until now the kraton (the sultan's palace) exists in its real functions. Also, Yogyakarta has numerous thousand-year-old temples as inheritances of the great ancient kingdoms, such as Prambanan Temple that constructed in tenth century.

More than the cultural heritages, Yogyakarta has beautiful natural panorama. The green rice fields cover the suburban areas with a background of Mt. Merapi. The natural beaches can be easily found at the south of Yogyakarta.

Here the sociality lives in peace and has typical Javanese hospitality. Just try to go around the city by bike, pedicab, or horse cart; and you will find sincere smiles and warm greeting in every corner of the city.

An artistic atmosphere is deeply felt in Yogyakarta. Malioboro, as the center of Yogyakarta, is overwhelmed by handicraft from all around the city. Street musicians always ready to entertain the visitors of the lesehan food stalls.

But Yogyakarta is not only Kraton, Prambanan Temple or Malioboro. There are 5 regions on Yogyakarta with different and exotic places and attractions waiting to see during a years.

This blog try to give informations that can be used as guidance for you to visit Yogyakarta during your holidays. Hope it will be usefull and please accept our warms greetings to all of you "Welcome to Yogyakarta"
